Open-Air Performance

peeing watermarked.png

What do you think this man is doing? He looks quite innocent, doesn’t he? Poor guy, he is only standing opposite to a wall and looking sideways!

The sight you see here is common in Delhi. Open-air peeing seems to be a man’s privilege out here. Being a female, it does feel embarrassing when you see a sight like this. All you can do is look the other way and just.walk by discreetly…

Delhi government has constructed lots of new public toilets during the last one year, but it is sad to see that many of them are not properly maintained and lots of people still prefer to ease themselves like this man in the pic here.

Going by the current progress of all those ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyans’, India will, I think, need several centuries to reach the level of awareness and discipline that countries like Singapore have reached towards public hygiene and sanitation…

Gossiping Over Snacks…

I wonder what our so-called Gau-Rakshaks (bovine protectors) will say when they see this pic…This is at some place in UP (Uttar Pradesh), North India…

Yesterday, on 25 August 2016, apart from the usual headlines on murder, rapes, and suicides, our national dailies (links given below)  were all agog with reports of our national highways planning to use mountains of garbage piled up at landfills like the one at Ghazipur.  It filled me with hope and optimism. Let’s see how it goes.

Tragedy of Human Existence

man on stairs

This man who lies

Here today

On the staircase,

His face

covered, half dead, half alive,

A victim of years

Of abuse,

Neglect and addiction to drugs,

Temporarily unburdened of pain,

Why is he here?

Why isn’t he where he ought to be,

With his family,

On a bed, under a roof ?

I asked myself these questions today,

As if I, a helpless

victim of circumstances herself,

Had the answers to them,

Or the power to change things.
