Blessings of Nature

When you live in a big city like Delhi in a small flat, any edible thing that emerges from soil inside your house gives you a big thrill…

When white brinjals began appearing on a potted plant in my balcony, I was absolutely amazed as I had almost given up on it. Year after year, new flowers kept appearing, falling, and getting replaced by new ones, but the flowers just did not turn into any fruits, like one of those perpetually unlucky kids whom Success treats like outcasts.

I didn’t have the heart to pluck these bringals, so I let them be. Now they are ripening and their color has changed into a bright, attractive yellow. See below.

Their continued, tenacious presence in my balcony has a reassuring effect on me every morning while I water all the potted plants.

I know it’s like holding on to something that I know will collapse one day. But that’s what life is all about, isn’t it?

And here are some pics of a few other edibles that I plucked.

Mint

Green peppers and beans

The Moodiest Day, Spring 2017, Delhi

On 10 March 2017, Delhi’s weather was at its whimsical best. It looked as though it was trying to achieve a perfect 10 in all the different gymnastic poses that weather can take. Here are the pictures.

Gossiping Over Snacks…

I wonder what our so-called Gau-Rakshaks (bovine protectors) will say when they see this pic…This is at some place in UP (Uttar Pradesh), North India…

grazing garbage.png

Yesterday, on 25 August 2016, apart from the usual headlines on murder, rapes, and suicides, our national dailies (links given below)  were all agog with reports of our national highways planning to use mountains of garbage piled up at landfills like the one at Ghazipur.  It filled me with hope and optimism. Let’s see how it goes.

Stupor Of A Dog

Exif_JPEG_420

Train loads of working people kept coming and descending down the steps at the Vaishali Metro Station. But the dog slept on with eyes tightly shut, unperturbed, oblivious…

You might think that he is dead. I thought so too when I saw him for the first time on my first day of travelling to my new office. When I took a closer look, I concluded that he wasn’t dead; because dead people have certain telltale signs and he had none of those. He wasn’t decaying or stinking and he didn’t have flies buzzing over him.

Today was my 4th day of travelling on this route and I noticed that the same dog was curled up in the same place in the same posture. As I walked past him, it occurred to me that perhaps someone is feeding him drugs! But there is one thing that makes this dog very special. He is neat and tidy and always sleeps at the same address…

Here are some more pics…
