Stupor Of A Dog

Train loads of working people kept coming and descending down the steps at the Vaishali Metro Station. But the dog slept on with eyes tightly shut, unperturbed, oblivious…

You might think that he is dead. I thought so too when I saw him for the first time on my first day of travelling to my new office. When I took a closer look, I concluded that he wasn’t dead; because dead people have certain telltale signs and he had none of those. He wasn’t decaying or stinking and he didn’t have flies buzzing over him.

Today was my 4th day of travelling on this route and I noticed that the same dog was curled up in the same place in the same posture. As I walked past him, it occurred to me that perhaps someone is feeding him drugs! But there is one thing that makes this dog very special. He is neat and tidy and always sleeps at the same address…

Sleeping, Suffering Humanity

Last month, while walking through the AIIMS Hospital Metro Station, I saw lots of people in a sleep mode. They looked so helpless and utterly exhausted. At one place, a dog had also joined them. Each one of them probably had a seriously sick relative or two admitted  in either AIIMS or the nearby Safdarjung Hospital and must have stayed awake all through the night. It was such a pathetic sight…

Once again, the Delhi Metro was found playing the role of a saviour by giving shelter to the downtrodden…
