The Great, Majestic Sun

When the Sun emerges,
Through the clouds
In all its splendor,
Everything else
Pales into insignificance…
Deeply humbled, awestruck,
I bow to you today,
The ubiquitous,
All-seeing, powerful,
Divine, beautiful,
God Almighty…

Freedom Of Thought

A well-meaning close relative once remarked, “You shouldn’t look at sunsets for too long. They bring on dark, negative thoughts which lead you into black, bottomless spaces of destruction.”

This is very good advice indeed,  But being a poet, my heart wins over my mind and I choose to ignore it.

As soon as I step out of office in the evenings, my eyes instinctively search for the setting sun. That’s when something snaps within me and I feel absolutely free. Liberated from tight deadlines, politically correct atmosphere, made-up faces, and artificial smiles, my thoughts become mine alone as I head towards home, sweet home…

While the clouds play with the sun and create their own paintings with different hues of yellow, orange, blue, and black, my thoughts turn into characters of a drama in the backdrop of those divine paintings in the sky; together, they create sagas of their own…

Here are some of my recent evening shots…

The Moodiest Day, Spring 2017, Delhi

On 10 March 2017, Delhi’s weather was at its whimsical best. It looked as though it was trying to achieve a perfect 10 in all the different gymnastic poses that weather can take. Here are the pictures.

Morning.(cloudy, chilly, and grey)..

Sunset Over Noida

sunset-over-noida

A few days ago, I had to stay back in office for some work that couldn’t be postponed. By the time I came out, the sun was about to set. It glowed brightly with varigated hues of orange and down below, the smoldering garbage and malingering cattle were no longer so conspicuous. They had turned into mere shadows, covered with a black film of darkness…It was a lovely sight! That was when I realized that Nature never gets affected by ugliness around her and never, ever forgets to look beautiful, so why must I? With my spirits considerably lifted by this thought, I got into an auto and went home…

Sunset @ A Junction

At Uttam Nagar Traffic Light, West Delhi, India…

For one moment, the traffic stood still. The Metro rails paused to catch their breath and the pedestrians scurried about. But the Sun continued, relentlessly, its daily parade with great fanfare in its lovely orange attire…

A Dressed-Up Sunset

I love photography for 2 reasons.

One, it’s a short-cut to drawing and painting. With just a click of a button, you can capture what your mind’s eye sees and you don’t have to spend months trying to achieve that enigmatic something, something like Dorian Gray or a Mona Lisa, for instance.

Another reason is the feeling of liberation that photography as an art gives you. You can very conveniently capture only those things you find beautiful and blot out the ugly ones.

For so many months I had been trying to capture the beauty of the setting sun at Uttam Nagar red light, West Delhi, near a busy, narrow road that leads to Hastsal. This spot is generally very crowded and chaotic. It’s very close to a big, wide, open, black, dirty pool of stagnant sewer line and a big pile of debris and garbage is always there on one side of the road.  It’s very difficult and risky to stand here since vehicles keep passing and all kinds of criminals (pickpockets, jewellery and mobile phone snatchers,  drug addicts, alcoholics, etc, hang around here looking for easy targets.

Take a look at these pics. These were the initial ones.
