Pakodas with peels of boiled potatoes

Pakodas with boiled potato peels and other vegetables

No, I am not kidding! Yes, we can easily make fritters or bhajiyas with peels of boiled potatoes. We usually throw them into the garbage, don’t we? This is a good way of minimising garbage.

Never discard peels of boiled and raw potatoes. They are a storehouse of nutrients. Keep collecting them till you have a bowlful. See this pic below. These were the boiled potato peels I started with.

Peels of boiled potatoes

Wash them well first. The rest of the steps are as follows.

1. In a mixing bowl, add some more vegetables, chopped raw potato with skin intact; chopped onion with some besan, rice flour, salt, chili-garlic paste, and some spices.

2. No need to add water. Instead, add some lemon juice. Apart from enhancing the taste, it will stop the pakoras from sucking excess oil.

3. Mix properly and deep fry spoonfuls of this mixture. Do this in batches to get delicious, crisp pakoras, like the ones in this pic. I made them last week and clicked the photo on top.

A marriage proposal, poem by Jasbir Chatterjee

A peacock and a peahen romancing

Will you marry me, dearest?
Time stood still.
His heart pounded heavily in his chest…
As he waited for her answer…
It seemed like eternity.
Quietly, with tearful eyes,
A lump in her throat,
She turned away…

A feather reminder, A poem

A feather

Here is my latest poem. It was inspired from this photo you see here. I clicked it yesterday (14 November 2021).

On one morning,
Of November 2021,
While the soft, soothing sun,
Smiled softly
Through a clear, blue sky,
My gaze fell
On a colorful little feather.
A peacock’s, I thought.
Softly,
I picked it up and looked closely.
It was so strikingly
Bright. Its fluorescent hues
Stood out in the sea of concrete around.
And then my eyes picked up
Something I will cherish forever;
Two hands joined in prayer…
God’s reminder, I thought,
To be grateful for His little mercies…

A Little Treasure

Bird feather

Yesterday, my gaze fell on this little feather, peacock’s, I think. (See the pic on top). It was so strikingly bright, its various hues standing out in its concrete surroundings. It had a picture of two hands joined in prayer… something I will cherish forever…God’s reminder to be grateful for His little mercies…
