A Much-Deserved Sleep

Oh, restful sleep…stray dogs befriended by a security guard of a residential colony in West Delhi, 20 December 2021

These stray dogs sleep during daytime while their guardian, a security guard of my residential colony, stays awake. At night, the dogs stay awake to let their guardian lie down and take rest.

The sight of these pigeons going about living their lives is so heartwarming on a chilly wintry morning in Delhi. This was on 6 December 2021…I was on my way to my new job after being homebound for several months because of Covid. Here’s another pic. See below.

Tikkis Magic With Leftovers

Magical tikkis from leftovers

What do you do when you have these leftovers that no one in your family wants to eat again? A katori of khichdi, 4 chapattis, and 4 slices of bread. Toss them into the garbage bin? No, don’t!

You can turn them into fantastic snacks that your family would love. Vegetable tikkis for instance. See the photo above. They are nutritious and healthy, apart from being crisp and tasty.

All you need to do is follow four simple steps I have described below with photos. They are self-explanatory.

1. Mash the chapattis and bread with khichdi into a soft dough.

2. Peel four boiled potatoes and add them to this dough. Then add some chili-garlic-ginger paste, green coriander leaves, heeng, red chili powder, garam masala, and some chopped onions. Knead them all again into a dough.

3. Rub some oil on your palms and take out small balls from this dough. Flatten them on your palms to turn the balls into tikkis.

4. Shallow fry the tikkis on both sides on a non-stick tawa till they turn brown. Your magical tikkis are ready. Enjoy!
